WHAT IF I TOLD YOU THAT BARRACAS COMPETED WITH RECOLETA FOR THE TITLE OF BUENOS AIRES’ MOST LUXURIOUS NEIGHBORHOOD? From aristocratic opulence to the industrial heart: I invite you to discover the myths, tragedies, and secrets of southern Buenos Aires on a unique historical walking tour. I’m Monica Galli, a history teacher, and I designed this special tour to break away from traditional tours and immerse ourselves in the true identity of our urban heritage.
What will we discover? • Lezama Park: From the founding of Buenos Aires to the magnificent country estate of a powerful family. • The mark of the crisis: How the yellow fever epidemic of 1871 changed the social landscape of Buenos Aires forever. • The Casa de los Leones: The extravagant mansion of the Díaz Vélez family and the bloody legend hidden behind its gates. • Stories of famous food factories that filled the neighborhood with the scent of cookies and chocolate: Canale, Bagley, Noel, and El Águila. • Pasaje Lanín: The railway and working-class oasis transformed into an open-air work of art. • Santa Felicitas Complex: The imposing Neo-Gothic church born from one of the most notorious crimes of passion of the 19th century.
