Cascais Free Tour: A Stroll Through History and Everyday Life

Discover the charming town of Cascais on a guided tour in German! In about 2.5 hours, you'll experience the most beautiful sights, fascinating stories, and the authentic local culture of this gorgeous coastal town.

Cascais was a fishing village for centuries—until the king chose it as his summer residence in 1870, and the entire Portuguese nobility followed suit.

On this walking tour, you’ll discover the palaces right by the sea, the private beach of Portugal’s last queen, the old town with its narrow streets and azulejos, the citadel where the royal family lived, the Santa Marta Lighthouse, and the Boca do Inferno. Along the way, I’ll tell you why Portugal’s first electric light was turned on here and not in Lisbon, and why there are so many English pubs in a Portuguese town.

But Cascais isn’t just about history. You’ll also get to know the Cascais of today: the one inhabited by people from over a hundred countries—and the one where you might run into the former president every morning while he’s swimming.
