Free Tour of Medina Azahara of Cordoba

“The Bright City” was founded by the Abrerramán II and was not accidentally called this way. Get a chance to familiarize yourself with the heritage of Medina Azahara, its monuments and architecture.
Would you like to visit the true jewel of Córdoba? We’ll explore this palatial city located 8 kilometers from Córdoba, at the foot of the Sierra Morena. For centuries it lay completely abandoned, until it was unearthed in the early 20th century and hailed as a site that perfectly exemplifies Al-Andalus art. Within its walls, it housed great riches, such as mercury pools, gold-plated roofs, and arabesque decorations, which made it the chosen home of philosophers, caliphs, military leaders, and princes of the time.
On this guided tour of Medina Azahara, we’ll walk through the streets that once housed the civil and military administration of Al-Andalus. We’ll also travel back in time to lose ourselves among its ruins, corridors, guardrooms and servants’ quarters, mosques, towers, and royal halls, as well as the pool and the grand portico, where we can imagine what life was like in that majestic palace.
In addition, during our guided tour in Spanish, we’ll visit the Medina Azahara Interpretation Center, which was named “European Museum of the Year” in 2012. Book now and discover the “Shining City” with us!
