Explore the best of the Algarve with our free tour. Walk with a local guide to an incredible viewpoint with views of Faro, Quarteira and Vilamoura. An authentic experience through local nature.
Explore the Algarve Barrocal on this hike that takes you to Santa Bárbara de Nexe and the Moinho das Estrelas, near Goldra. It’s an easy hike, but one that offers a deep insight into the lesser-known Algarve. This route winds through rural paths and the hills of the Barrocal, offering a clear glimpse of the transition from the interior to the coast.
At the start of the route, the landscape is marked by stone walls, almond trees, carob trees, and fig trees, but as you proceed, the terrain gradually rises, progressively opening up the horizon to the south. On clear days, the blue of the Atlantic begins to stand out, creating a striking contrast with the warm tones of the surrounding landscape.
The Goldra Geodetic Marker marks the highest point of the hike, both in elevation and visual impact. It’s an ideal spot for a break and some contemplation, where the wind and silence reinforce the sense of space and freedom. This hike is perfect for those seeking accessible trails, sweeping landscapes, and an authentic experience in the inland Algarve—yet close to the hustle and bustle of the cities.
I accompany each group myself. I was born on the outskirts of Faro, and hiking is one of my hobbies.
