Women of Learning and Law: Discover the Strand Free Tour

Join us for an inspiring walking tour along London’s historic Strand and Aldwych. Discover centuries of law, education, and heritage while taking in iconic sights on a clear, accessible route through the city's heart.

Join us for a walking tour along a short stretch of the Strand, where centres of law and learning have flourished since Tudor times. We will hear the stories of the women — and a few men — connected to this corner of London: royal residents, scholars, activists, lawyers, artists and athletes who lived, worked, studied, and fought the systems of education, government and state here.

On our one-mile route, we will encounter the buildings where these women made history, and artworks and achievements that carry the traces and legacies of these incredible women. These formidable women smashed open doors of power for themselves and their peers, and held them open for the rest of us. Whether you have walked this route countless times or are new to the city, you will leave with a new set of stories about the area.

About your guide: I am an Open City Golden Key Academy-trained tour guide. While I don't echo Johnson's claim that 'When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life', I do believe that maybe when a person is tired of London, they might need something to reignite their love for the city, and that a walking tour is a good place to start.
