Rhymes & Reasons Tour: Exploring London through Nursery Rhymes

Uncover historic London streets on a fun nursery rhyme walking tour from Charterhouse Square to London Bridge. Explore hidden alleyways and the true stories behind famous rhymes. Perfect for curious adults, kids, and families!

What can nursery rhymes tell us about London’s past? Join me for Rhymes and Reasons, a walking tour exploring the City of London through familiar verses, intriguing stories and enduring legends.

Starting at Charterhouse Square and finishing at London Bridge, we’ll discover medieval churches, hidden corners and famous landmarks, including St Paul’s Cathedral, St Mary-le-Bow and the Monument.

Along the way, we’ll explore the history and possible connections behind favourites such as Oranges and Lemons, London’s Burning and Pop Goes the Weasel. Expect stories of fire, daily life and a changing city, as we untangle fact, folklore and some tempting theories.

I’m Elaine, a history enthusiast and graduate of Open City’s Golden Key Academy. I love helping people notice the details they might otherwise walk past.

This welcoming walk is for curious adults and families alike. You don’t need to bring children or know the rhymes to enjoy it. Singing along is entirely optional!
