Christmas Market & City Lights Walking Tour

Enjoy the magic of Christmas in Stockholm on a festive walking tour from the Royal Palace to Strandvägen. Explore the Old Town Christmas market at Stortorget and discover the stories and traditions that make Swedish Christmas special.

Discover Stockholm at its most festive on a guided evening walk from the medieval Old Town to the sparkling city centre.

Meet your guide beside the Royal Palace and step into Gamla Stan. On Stortorget, Stockholm’s traditional Christmas market fills the old square with wooden stalls and seasonal atmosphere. Learn where Swedish traditions like Lucia, glögg and the Christmas table come from, and how the city has celebrated the darkest time of the year through the centuries. The square is also home to the Nobel Prize Museum, a reminder that December is when Stockholm welcomes the world for the Nobel Prize.

Cross the water past the Swedish Parliament into the city centre. Walk through the lights of Kungsträdgården and see why the Christmas windows of the NK department store have been a Stockholm tradition for generations. Continue through Sergels torg, Norrmalmstorg and Nybroplan as the festive streets glow around you.

Finish on elegant Strandvägen, looking across the water to the Grand Hôtel, where Nobel laureates traditionally stay each December. From 5 to 13 December, the route also passes selected Nobel Week Lights installations.
