Reading the Signs of Tallinn's Old Town Free Tour
♡ Save

Uncover Tallinn’s hidden stories on an engaging 90-minute tour! From iconic sights to secret details, explore Estonian culture and history at your own pace. Discover what makes this city truly unique!
This walk is my favourite way to show the city. For the length of this walk you will be a culturenaut, someone who explores a city by reading the signs it leaves everywhere. We will spend ninety minutes in the Old Town reading the city and its cultural layers: buildings, symbols, statues, church towers, and other unique objects that can only be found in Tallinn. Our time together will take us through the narratives that have shaped this city over many centuries, such as reading how the Danes, Germans, Swedes, Russians and Estonians each have contributed to the city's story that we see today.
Where we go: We meet at the Victory Column on Freedom Square and walk up to Town Hall Square, past the pharmacy that has been operating since 1422 and a merchant house with dragons on it. Then up to Toompea for both viewpoints over the rooftops, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Danish King's Garden and its three bronze monks, and a stretch of the old city wall. We will finish at Freedom Square.
During the walk, feel free to ask any questions as we go. If you enjoy a good story and like uncovering more than what the eyes can see, then this tour will be a nice fit!
